Our projects
Development cooperation in the new millennium demands more than good will and good intentions. It requires a good organisational basis and a good quality monitoring system to ensure that the funds that are raised to help the disadvantaged are well spent. The taxpayers and donors in Western countries keep an increasingly critical eye on the work of the organisations they support and have every right to do so. Every year, MCNV continues to review and revise its procedures and programs with the aim of increasing effectiveness and efficiency, and transparency.
Vietnam is doing well, but it still needs our support!
At the Millennium-conference of the Unites Nations in 2000, 189 heads of state together drew up eight "millennium goals" to be reached by 2015. These goals focus on poverty, education, equality and preservation of the environment.
In 2005 there has been an evaluation of these goals. Vietnam has received praise for its efforts to reduce maternal mortality and pregnancy-related health problems for women, but there still remains a lot to improve. As for the other MDGs a lot remains to be dealt with. A considerable amount of money is needed to reacht these goals in developing countries like Vietnam.
MCNV helps where it is most needed
The most needy groups in Vietnam today are mainly in rural communities in remote areas, for whom structural health improvement requires addressing deficiencies not only in the quality of services but also in their access to basic health care services, as well as their poor living conditions in general. Therefore, while they depart from a narrow concept of health and health improvement, the goals of poverty reduction and community development are consistent with the direct or indirect aims of all of the programs supported by MCNV. Thanks to the financial support of private donors and subsidies from the European Commission, PSO (Personel Cooperation Overseas) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs MCNV can provide that support!
